We are a group of people who have volunteered our time to protect our relatives and friends interred in the cemetery. Initially, we started as a mother and daughter team in May 2008 in response to the Consultation Document and map, but as people heard about the threat, the size of the team rapidly grew and lead to the formation of a large committee. Our strength is that the committee comprises of people from all walks of life and is representative of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and religions.
It is our sole aim to preserve the sanctity and tranquility of the cemetery as it currently stands and to ensure that it is safe from Heathrow expansion or any other development, both now and in the future.
At our Funeral Procession March to the Houses of Parliament and Cherry Lane Cemetery, guest speakers read the poem "An Inspiration" by Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919). We have adopted the final two lines as our motto as it represents our unyielding determination to save our cemetery from any threat, and when people ask us why we fight on despite promises from BAA, we say the question we have to settle is to get the legally binding guarantee that our cemetery will not be used for anything other than a burial ground. Promises alone are not enough - the campaign is not over until it is settled right.
